#Repost @alastair.macaulay News has just come that Donald McCayle has died. Born 6 July 1930; died 7 April 2018. Just a couple of springs ago, his “Rainbow Round My Shoulder” (1959) was danced - terrifically - by the wonderful Dayton Contemporary Dance Company as part of Paul Taylor’s American Modern Dance season. Racial injustice, chain-gang prisoners, a shoot by and killing were - are - among its imagery. McCayle was among the first African American dancers and choreographers to become a leading name in American modern dance. His work took him into Broadway, TV, and film. I wish I had seen more of it. Sunday 8 April.
