Today for the new year, @taylorfreesolo and I wanted to celebrate our most loved place on earth - #bearsearsnationalmonument - by climbing a desert tower and doing art on top. I sketched a drawing of the landscape, a practice which brings me into a deeper appreciation of place, and Taylor danced. She danced in black to express some sadness for the largest reduction of public land in history, the recent shrinking of Bears Ears National Monument. We weren’t the only ones who chose this sacred landscape as a special place to be to ring in the new year. The two climbers in the photo took in the glowing sunset with us.
